The Government of Samoa in June 2019, devised an elementary cybersecurity emergency response protocol namely, Samoa’s National Computer Emergency Response Team (SAMCERT). The SamCERT team is set up under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).

As it is an initiative towards cybersecurity, its capabilities at most include content monitoring and filtering to primarily deliver safe cyberspace to users, intrusion detection and prevention systems, centralized virus protection services, and finally, traffic monitoring, auditing & reporting.

The three key activity areas that guide SamCERT work involve any topic or related activities towards Cybersecurity, Cybersafety, and Cyber inclusion. SamCERT will not only help raise and improve cybersecurity awareness it will also provide technical support to resolve Cybersecurity incidents, Threat Management. Furthermore, it will provide cybersecurity support for both the public and private sectors.

This leads towards cybersecurity aims to build Samoa’s profile and security poster in Cyberspace both nationally and regionally. As Samoa moves more and more online, SamCERT will be the center of support in ensuring that Samoa’s Digital Platforms, Digital Services, Digital/Cybersecurity Infrastructure is being well managed and utilized and well supported in all areas of Cybersecurity, Cybersafety, and Online Cyberhigens.
