Unauthorized access:
The term “unauthorized access” is define as the act of directly or indirectly accessing to such information online or offline without authorization.
This information such as:
- Websites
- Emails
- Social media accounts
- Co-worker’s computer
- Bank accounts
- Business networks and systems
Unauthorized Access is when someone who doesn’t have permission, gains access entry to the system, network, data, application or other resource.
Prevention Steps:
- Create strong & unique passwords
- Turn on 2-factor or “multi-factor” authentication whenever possible
- Lock screen whenever you leave your computer
- Install the best anti-virus program
- Scan for viruses regularly
- Always update your devices when new versions are available
- Watch for shoulder spying when logging on
- Be careful when connecting your devices such as your laptops or phones to unsecure network like free WIFI
- Always shutdown after using your laptop or PC
- Store laptop in a locked area

What to do if someone’s had unauthorized access to your network or system
- Change the password for everything that may have been accessed without your permission
- Contact your service provider for your online accounts
- Make sure you back up your files regularly on all your devices such as laptops, computers, Ipads, phones & etc.
- Do backups for your data such as offline backup using an external hard drive or a cloud backup
